Old Cookery, Food & Wine Books

INTRODUCTION

For the last eleven years, I have been a bookseller of antiquarian and out-of-print books on cookery, food history, wine and general drinks, herbs, country matters and some early gardening. I work from home and issue three to four catalogues a year. There are approximately 750-800 books in each catalogue. The catalogue is divided into the following four sections: Cookery and Food History, Baking and Confectionery, Alcohol, Beer, Champagne, Distilling, Wine &c and, Country Matters, Gardening, Herbs, Mushrooms and Natural History. In addition, I look for individual books for customers who, sometimes, want to receive my catalogues and, sometimes, only want me to look for their particular Wants. All books are sent through the mail, postage and packing are extra.

I am a keen home cook and am constantly searching for interesting books. My illustrated catalogues are good to read, with either a quote from each book or a few recipe headings to give an idea of the work, and many of my customers tell me they keep them for reference and research. They all know they have to be quick to order as I only have one copy to sell of each item (apart from facsimile and modern reprints of old cook books). My customers range from home cooks, cookery writers, chefs, food historians, in fact anyone with an interest in food! It's impossible to list all the books I have sold but they have included the following authors: Eliza Acton, Apicius, Isabella Beeton, Martha Bradley, Charles Elmé Francatelli, Hannah Glasse, Jules Gouffé, William Henderson, Col Kenney Herbert, Patrick Lamb, Gervase Markham, Elizabeth Raffald, Eliza Smith, Alexis Soyer, Louis Eustache Ude, and from the 20th century, Elisabeth Ayrton, Ada Boni, Fanny Cradock, Elizabeth David, Norman Douglas, Auguste Escoffier, Theodora Fitzgibbon, Jane Grigson, Michel Guerard, Richard Olney, Constance Spry, Alice B Toklas et al.

If you would like to see a catalogue for which there is no charge, please send an e-mail to liz@lizseeber.demon.co.uk, giving me your name and mailing address. I'll send a copy of the most recent list and will also send the next one to be mailed when it becomes available. After you have received two catalogues, if you have not bought anything, please contact me if you still would like to receive the catalogue as otherwise you may be taken off the database. If you haven't bought after three catalogues and still want to receive them I shall be happy to send them at £1.50 each for the UK, £2.50 for Europe, £3.00 for the USA and rest of the world.

Alternatively, if you'd like me to look out for a particular book, send an e-mail, phone or write to me, giving details of author, title and approximate date the book was published. ISBN numbers are not necessary. I only look for hardbacks, no paperbacks, sorry! If you're looking to sell books, contact me, I'm always looking for new and interesting stock.
